LO AND BEHOLD is an artist-run non-profit organization based in Athens whose aim is to produce and promote cultural activities, both in Greece and abroad, with a focus on contemporary art.

LO AND BEHOLD's objective is to highlight anew the work of art itself, its production strategies, as a result of research and thought, independent of its commercial standing.
Furthermore, LO AND BEHOLD intends to promote and manage contemporary art projects in a flexible and targeted manner, in diverse cultural and social surroundings, an approach unconditioned by the conventionality that is often encountered in local, more constrained contexts.

The creation of such a platform not only allows but also aims at dialogue and the immediate involvement of diverse social and cultural frameworks from all over Europe. This dialogue regarding research and experimentation on new methods in contemporary art, as well as strategies for the creation and management of the work of art, are all important matters, probably more so than ever, given the present economic and geo-cultural conditions.

Athens, where the organization’s head office is located, will constitute a management base, whereas every 2 or 3 years a production and promotion base will be created by way of a project space, in any place in Europe considered as being a center of significant activity in contemporary art at the given time.

LO AND BEHOLD’s activities are determined by its board of founding members and, depending on the project, artists and other contemporary art professionals from the two cultural settings are invited to participate and contribute. These activities, apart from the creation of a program for production and exhibitions, include workshops, seminars, participation in art fairs and other curatorial projects, the creation of special printed editions, etc.

The organization’s financial resources come from membership fees, sponsorships and donations, as well as from the management of artists’ work, according to the terms of its non-profit status.
